Hart Collection
Finely woven, fairly priced. Jute is a strong, eco-friendly natural fiber. Both biodegradable and carbon-neutral, it’s beloved for these qualities as well as its natural variation in tone. Unlike the chunkier jutes out there, Hart is a refined flatweave thanks to its fine fibers, which we’ve hand-sorted by shade for a nuanced, brindled look.

An elegant and flexible jute rug with serene color variation
- 100% natural jute
- Flatweave: approximately .2" thick (5-6mm)
- Color palette: royal blue, prussian blue, mustard yellow, cognac brown, puce brown
- Low-shed and biodegradable
- Please note: repeated sun exposure will cause fading
- Please note: because the yarn is hand-dyed and the rug is handwoven, variations in color and size are to be expected-and in fact, that's what makes this piece truly special. It also means your rug may not look exactly like the photo.
Care
+
- Vacuum on low power with a non-rotary (no spinning brush) vacuum or suction attachment only.
- Professional cleaning recommended as needed.
- Rotate your rug on occasion to ensure even wear over time.
- Keep away from excessive moisture.
- Due to the hand-crafted nature of our rugs, you can expect to see light shedding, matting, and signs of fiber and thread breakage over time. For high traffic areas, these effects may occur more quickly and easily.
- Do not dry clean or steam clean.
- Spot cleaning instructions:
- Lightly dampen a paper towel or cloth with clean water
- Gently blot the affected area with your damp towel or cloth to dilute the stain
- If the stain persists, try using an unscented, citrus-free, clear soap to avoid bleaching the textile.
- Repeat this process until the stain is removed

The Design
The original Hart is beloved for its nuanced, natural variation of hues, and Hart Abrash takes this one step further. Finely-woven hand-dyed yarns create the abrash effect for which it's named. Abrash, also styled as abraj, is transliterated from Arabic, where it means dappled or speckled. Abrash results from subtle differences in the dye lots, and gives a covetable flow and movement in color that's unique to each piece: none of these rugs is quite like the other. Bonus: its fine weave means it collects less dust.
The Material
- Jute is a natural fiber with a golden sheen, known for its tensile strength and versatility
- Handspun weft expresses jute's natural irregularities and textures
- An eco-conscious crop, jute has minimal water needs, and consumes large enough quantities of carbon dioxide that it's C02-neutral
- Jute has a desirable variation of hue and texture, which we've played up with a tonal gradation
- Over time, the fibers' sheen will lessen, giving the rug a slightly more muted, less saturated tone. Because we like a relaxed, lived-in look, this gradual, gentle fading is our favorite quality of Hart Abrash.
The Maker
Our partner is a small, family-run operation devoted to maintaining the integrity of the yarn they use. Wherever possible they prioritize the use of organic materials, and are committed to a high level of quality and craftsmanship.
