A handwoven flatweave rug in soumak-woven jute
- 100% jute
- Handwoven flatweave: approximately .55" thick (14mm)
- We recommend you pair this piece with a rug pad for comfort and longevity
- Due to its handmade nature a 5% variance in size, color and texture is to be expected.
Care
+
- Vacuum on low power with a non-rotary (no spinning brush) vacuum or suction attachment only.
- Avoid prolonged direct exposure to sunlight, although leaving your rug out to dry in the sun for a few hours on occasion (1-2 times a year) is actually good for the fibers
- Don't pull loose fiber ends; trim with scissors to remove
- For hard-to-remove stains, we recommend professional rug cleaning.
- Due to the hand-crafted nature of our rugs, you can expect to see light shedding, matting, and signs of fiber and thread breakage over time. For high traffic areas, these effects may occur more quickly and easily.
- Spot cleaning instructions:
- Lightly dampen a paper towel or cloth with clean water
- Gently blot the affected area with your damp towel or cloth to dilute the stain
- If the stain persists, try using an unscented, citrus-free, clear soap to avoid bleaching the textile.
- Repeat this process until the stain is removed

The Collection
In the Yuva Collection, the soumak weave is the star of the show. A hand-weaving technique which involves wrapping the weft around the warp, it adds a layer of texture. In these pieces, the soumak details are accentuated with bleached jute for extra contrast-it helps the geometric florals shine even brighter. Dreamy and folkloric, this collection gets its name from the Turkish word for a nest or home, and they feel almost as though they've been passed down from generation to generation.
The Design
Tulip is an earthy flatweave rug that makes a statement on its own as well as layered underneath another rug. Its design takes inspiration from the tulip plant, which is often grown and harvested in rows. As a flower that blooms in the spring, it's a symbol of renewal in floral traditions, making it a great addition for room transformations.
The Material
Jute is a natural fiber with a golden sheen, known for its tensile strength and versatility. In this collection, a twisted weft enunciates jute's natural variance. An eco-conscious crop, jute has minimal water needs, and consumes large enough quantities of carbon dioxide that it's C02-neutral. Unbleached, natural jute has a desirable variation of hue and texture, which we've played up with a tonal gradation.
The Maker
Our partner is a small, family-run operation based in Bhadohi, with an in-house spinning mill, dying plant, weaving unit, and washing unit. They're invested in researching new weaving technologies, especially when it comes to improving environmentally-sound practices.
The Designer
Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.
