The Collection

Our first collection of washable wool rugs involved many rounds of revision to ensure these pieces were beautiful and functional. Their modified construction makes the rugs quite supple, so they're more easily squashed into a washing machine; without compromising on thickness, softness, and fluffiness. The graphic simplicity of the linework sings across their soft fields, allowing the high-low effect of the pile to shine through.

The Design

Named for esteemed linocut artists, these rugs feature a cut-pile design which reads as tone-on-tone. Sybil's graceful, geometric linework is acrobatic, overlapping, and perfectly balanced.

The Material

Washable wool rugs with a soft, satisfying footfall and pleasing weight, Lino is woven of a combination of New Zealand and Indian wools to achieve just the right texture and durability. New Zealand wool is a premium wool beloved for its softness and long fibers. The fiber's natural lanolin makes it soft and shiny, protecting it from shedding and dirt. It also decomposes quickly, without risk of microfibers.

The Maker

We partnered with a small, family-run weaving house. They're Craftmark-certified, which means they meet stringent national standards for socially responsible handmade products. Many of their weavers have been with them for as long as 30 years. To visit their factory is to be steeped in its personal history, from the walls of photographs honoring their lineage, to the majestic, hundred-year-old timber looms they still use today.

The Designer

Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they work with the supplier on an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.

  • Clean regularly with a non-rotary, low powered vacuum without a beater brush.
  • Wash rug separately with mild detergent on a gentle cycle at 86°F. Do not use fabric softener or bleach. Tumble dry low; remove promptly.
  • The first few times you wash your rug, there will be some fluff left in the washing machine. Don't be alarmed; this will lessen and ultimately stop. The yarn continues to open after washing, making the rug fluffier with time.
  • Hot tip: when you receive your rug, put it in the dryer for 10 minutes on low heat to remove any creases.
  • For sizes 6'x9' and 8'x10', we recommend using a 60-lb washing machine ( the large kind you find at a laundromat) rather than a home washing machine, which is usually 20-25 lbs.
  • For sizes 9'x12' and above, spot cleaning is best.

You do need a rug pad
Here's why

Why You Need a Rug Pad

While we recommend a rug pad for all rugs, they’re especially important for flatweaves, whose slim profile requires extra padding.

A rug pad prevents unwanted bunching and sliding, adds a subtle lift, and gives your rug a more cushioned feel underfoot.

Our rug pads are made of recycled felt and natural rubber, whereas lesser rug pads’ thin, sticky web can damage your flooring.

Moisture and mildew resistant, a rug pad stops dirt and grime from settling in your rug’s fibers.

The right rug pad

A must-have for flatweaves and other lower-pile pieces, a rug pad is the secret ingredient to maintaining your rug’s appearance and longevity. Width-wise, you’ll want to trim your rug pad so it’s 1-2” shorter than your rug on all four sides. Height-wise, we offer two premium rug pad options, both made of cozy recycled felt and natural rubber.
