The Collection
Our latest collaboration with artist K'era Morgan of k-apostrophe is a limited edition of 4 extra-large and luxurious cushions handwoven with New Zealand wool. Inspired by K'era's time in Mexico, where she was blown away by the history, art, and culture: museum artifacts from the Aztec periods, Oaxacan weaving traditions, looms, and their exquisite craftsmanship, artistry and skill.
The Design
Geometry and color drove this collection, inspiring K'era to work with geometrics in a way that felt new and expansive, as she sought to honor Mexico's culture and tradition. As for the palette, in Mexico City, there's so much color there, and it's used in such a nuanced, brilliant, and exuberant way. "I mean I love color," K'era says, "and I tried to remember the things that really stuck out for me." The Raya lumbar cushion has a horizon-like design, with melting sunset brights into an azure sea. It's offset by a cream ground with a black-and-cream stripe border on the top and bottom.
The Material
New Zealand wool is a premium wool beloved for its softness and long fibers. Like all wools, it has a hydrophobic layer which repels dust and dirt, as well as lanolin, which provides its trademark luster and protects the fiber from breaking or shedding. In these cushions, it's handwoven onto a 100% cotton foundation for durability.
The Maker
Our partner is a small, family-run operation devoted to maintaining the integrity of the yarn they use. Wherever possible they prioritize the use of organic materials, and are committed to a high level of quality and craftsmanship.
The Designer
K'era Morgan is a Los Angeles-based mixed media painter who graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a BFA in textile design. Her work is a reflection of her mood, with color and brushstrokes and mark-making heavily representing the essence of a feeling, emotion or thought in the exact moment. Her brand, k-apostrophe, as well as her collage paintings, can be found in independent boutiques, private residences and art collections around the world.
